Phase I & II Ground Investigation:
Kent, England

Working on active sites always requires careful planning and communication, but our Phase I & II investigation at this site in Kent went extremely smoothly. This is an operational car sales and repair garage which is being extended, and our investigations will provide valuable data to allow 'value engineering'.

Works Undertaken:  Communication with Site Staff (Before Start and During Works), Window Sampler Drilling, Sampling and Analysis of Soils, Production of Phase I & II Geo-Environmental Report

Phase I & II Ground Investigation: East Midlands

This site was a heavily overgrown historic allotment garden area which was hiding a lot of secrets! It had multiple geological features, nearby tunnels and even undiscovered WW2 air raid shelters on site and nearby.

With the benefit of a thorough and careful 'Phase 1 Desk Study' we were able to pinpoint potential areas of concern in advance of the investigation, which were then fully investigated. This was supplemented by a 'piling investigation' to confirm the strength of deeper soils for piled foundations.

Works Undertaken:  Desk Study, Local Specialist Enquiries, Window Sampler Drilling, 'Deep' Rotary Drilling, Sampling and Analysis of Soils, 'BRE' Soakaway Tests, Production of Phase I & Phase II Geo-Environmental Report

Phase I & II Ground Investigation:
West Midlands

This derelict former hospital facility was â€‹situated in a very urban location and had suffered severe neglect over the years. Our Client had exciting plans to turn this into valuable commercial and residential properties and we were lucky enough to be asked to assist.

The site itself presented significant restrictions to our investigations and it also presented sever health and safety risks, but with proper planning we were able to deliver an investigation safely and successfully!

Phase I & II Ground Investigation, South-West England

This site looked like an undisturbed field which had never been developed. However, our 'Phase I Desk Study' found that it had been partly used as a historic landfill, and the following investigations  â€‹therefore needed careful planning.

With help from the local wildlife we were able to fully investigate this site and we encouraged early liaison with regulators and alternative foundation contractors so that our Client found the best solutions as early as they possibly could. We can't wait to see this one redeveloped!

'BRE' Soakaway Testing, South Wales

Sites don't come much prettier than this! â€‹

As part of their planning application our Client required in situ 'BRE' soakaway testing, which was completed safely and successfully on this scheme.

We were made aware of severe time restrictions with this site, so the initial calculations and site data were packaged and released just a few hours after our works were complete.

Phase II Ground Investigation:
Northern England

This site is an active upmarket gym which required an investigation in their tennis court areas. In order to maintain their high standards and levels of service, 'clean' drilling was required alongside a speedy completion of the works so that the areas could be returned to use as promptly as possible.

With careful preparation of the drilling areas we successfully managed to complete the investigation and obtain sufficient information for our report, and the site was returned to its original clean and tidy state!

Phase I & II Ground Investigation:
Southern England

This project involved a requirement for ground investigation works within and around an operational factory which was undergoing major reconstruction works of their Grade II listed building.  The ground investigation was critical for the structural engineering appraisal, and had to take place in a tight timeframe which did not impact the factory's operations. â€‹

Close involvement was needed for the investigation between our engineers, the local council, the structural engineers and various other architects, designers and planners.

Phase II Ground Investigation:
Greenfield Site in Central England

This multi-technique project was undertaken for a residential developer in the Midlands. The site presented complex ground conditions including shallow bedrock, unknown groundwater levels and areas of contaminated made ground.

With the help of historic mapping, appropriate investigation techniques and discussions with the Local Authority, we were able to help our client to identify the risks to their scheme at an early stage.

Phase I & II Ground Investigation:
Greenfield Site in East England

This site appeared to be an open agricultural field, but our Phase I Desk Study highlighted multiple past uses which needed to be examined in more detail. With the help of our client, we managed to assess the site and derive a suitable investigation strategy.

The ground investigation works uncovered several areas across the site which would have presented the client with some unforeseen 'abnormals' and unexpected construction costs, but our inspection, investigation and analysis of these areas enabled them to quantify their risks prior to purchase.

Phase II Ground Investigation:
Industrial Site in South-East England

This site presented multiple highly complex risks to development including potentially significant geotechnical constraints and contamination hazards.

After mobilising rapidly to site we were able to investigate the ground conditions and provide our client with the necessary data to allow them to confirm their risks and liabilities.

Phase I & II Ground Investigation:
Brownfield Site in West Midlands

This multi-technique project included a  Phase I Desk Study, an initial Phase II ground investigation using window sampler drilling and a secondary Phase II investigation using deep rotary drilling techniques. The site had a history of potential unexploded ordnance (UXO) so the works were accompanied and checked by a UXO Engineer to keep the site team safe at all times.

The Client was building an outdoor pool and the investigation revealed complex ground conditions, but the design works were able to successfully compensate for these to ensure successful delivery of the project.

Gas Monitoring: South-Eastern England

Monitoring of ground gas and groundwater levels is a service we often supply. The local planning authority asked for gas monitoring to be undertaken at this site so that ground gas risks could be ruled-out. Engineers from Elemental GI Ltd undertook the monitoring and assessment of gas levels using the latest fully-calibrated equipment to the satisfaction of the regulators and our Client.

Phase I & II Ground Investigation:
East Coast of England

This multi-technique project was undertaken for a residential developer  on the east coast of England. Very shallow groundwater and extremely soft soil strengths presented significant potential issues for development,  but with in situ plate / CBR testing, the developer was armed with the information they needed to maximise their understanding of the risks involved.

This project involved working closely with our Client, the regulators, specialist drainage engineers and site-based testing specialists.
